Some of the words I didn't know from that quote:
    nescient----ignorant

meretricious---specious (seeming to be good, sound, correct, etc. without being really so.

retromingent---urinating backwards because of bodily confirmation .  (honest to God!)
an animal that urinates backward, such as a lion

now don't say I didn't help!!    I wonder if he really knew all of those words or if he had to look them up first!

I couldn't resist this one.
from Mark Alexander:
" Now, this once-proud political party [Democrats] is infected with hypocritical, nescient, duplicitous, reprehensible, half-witted, asinine, obsequious, meretricious, pusillanimous, indolent, imbecilic, pompous, retromingent, ignominious, ungrateful, sycophantic, (did I forget anything) prevaricators who flippantly exploit Operation Iraqi Freedom for their next campaign."

Do you get the impression he is disappointed in the Democrat party??     I agree with all of those adjectives that I know the meaning of and figure I would also agree with the rest if I only knew what they meant.  :-))

If they had any shame at all, they would be hiding their heads, not spouting off their lies in front of the camera.  They are scared to death we will have any success in Iraq and are doing all they can to prevent it.  I keep thinking about how the jihadists must be laughing .  It must be great to have so many of your enemies aiding your cause.

quotes

Time for some more quotes.
       Richard Collins
"Those familiar with the Clinton response to scandal know the process by heart.  It inevitably goes something like this:  first, deny any wrongdoing;  then explain it as a misunderstanding or bureaucratic mistake;  when it is clear there is actual wrongdoing begin to stonewall and obfuscate;  then move on to simultaneously attacking anyone who brings up the scandal and dismissing the issue as old news."
         James Taranto
"Today when America's enemies speak, young liberal journalists cover their ears and go LA LA LA LA LA.!"

It continually amazes me that the Democrat leadership is constantly putting politics (making Bush look bad) before statesmanship.  Reid announces that "the war is lost" before the surge even begins.  One after another says "Get out of Iraq", "bring the boys home", "we can't win in Iraq" before General Petraeus even reports.  Some of them, including the liberal papers, were practically calling him a liar before they even heard what he had to say.  Some were saying his report would be written by Bush's people!  Talk about an insult!
I hope they heard when he said that no one had written his report but himself, but, of course, they wouldn't believe him.
The last thing they want to hear is that there is any progress in Iraq.  They keep bleating to "get out" but they never give any idea of how to do that.   Just as not enough thought was given to what would happen after Saddam was "dethroned" there is no thought of what would happen if all Americans were suddenly taken out of Iraq.
I think it is obvious that we will stay until the end of Bush's term and maybe by then there will be enough progress to bring most of the servicemen (and women) home.
I saw someone saying today that we should be doing more about Al Queda in Pakistan and Afghanistan.  Are they suggesting that we now invade those two countries?  Just how do they expect us to go after Al Q in that area that is all desert, mountains, caves for mile after mile?  It would be interesting to hear their screams if Bush decided we should invade.

Appeasement

The present tendency of too many people to try to appease the Muslims is the same as the tendency of those who believed
that detente would be enough to contain the Soviets during the Cold War.
Where the purpose of the Soviet regime was to destroy democracy and impose communism throughout the world, so
the purpose of radical Muslims is to impose Islam throughout the world.
We ignore this purpose at our own peril.
Sweetness and kindness and political correctness will only be received with contempt.
We need a leader with Reagan's ability to "tell it like it is" and there doesn't seem to be one.
Appeasement has never won a war yet; in fact, it has only made it worse when the time came to fight.
At this time it will only bring contempt for our weakness.

Why the liberals did not learn this lesson from WWI, WW II, the Cold War, and Vietnam is beyond understanding.
The "peace-at-any-cost" crowd is trying hard to hand over our liberty again.

A quote

I haven't been getting excited about anything lately, plus things going on, so day after day has gone by with no additions!!
Since hardly anyone is reading this (just a couple of close people :-)) ) there is really no loss.  But it's about time for a quote.
   from Jonah Goldberg
"Once you become a liberal, you can wax eloquent on the glories of the public schools while sending your kids to private
school.  You can wax prolix about the greedy rich while making a fortune on the side.  You can even use the government to
impose your values willy-nilly, from racial quotas and confiscatory tax rates to draconian environmental policies and sex-ed
for grade schoolers--all of which will be paid for in part by people who disagree with you."
   and from Peggy Noonan:
" Do you ever get the feeling that at this point Washington is run by two rival gangs that have a great deal in common with
each other, including an essential lack of interest in the well-being of the turf on which they fight?"

And so Thompson is about to declare he is in the contest.  It will be interesting to see whether, in actual running, he arouses
the interest he has accrued during the time he was "only thinking " about running.
While the Republicans do not deserve to win anything but disgust, the country doesn't deserve Hillary Clinton.  Her disapproval
rating may be 52% but will the disapproval of the Republicans be so far above that she will get the job by default?

There is a website detailing everything there is to learn about Romney.  First of all, I want one doing the same thing to Hillary.
Second, with this type of thing becoming common, will anyone decent ever want to run.

OK... dates:
  1776.  Declaration of Independence
            Articles of Confederation
   1788-1789  threats of interstate wars
    1787--Constitutional Convention started
          Aug. 6... 1st draft
          Sept. 15 final draft
    1791.  final ratification

so that looks like 17 YEARS from the time we broke away from England.
now I need to look up how many died, right?
Gee, I can't imagine what is holding up a government in Iraq!!!

In a small item (about 3in) on the umteenth page of the local newspaper this morning there was a notice that three (3!) Democrat senators were noticing that there was progress in Iraq!~!  If I were the editor the item would have been on the front page!  This may be the start of a "surge" of awareness??  Nah,  I don't suppose so.  The Democrats will be harping on the absence of decent government, of course.  There is no way that most of them will admit anything is going well in Iraq.
I can't remember how long it took the United States to form a government but I know it didn't happen overnight!

the SCHIP bill

Here's a case of the Democrats attempting to establish national health care.
This bill was brought through bypassing debate and committee review...to cram it through the House before adjourning.
It was originally meant to provide health insurance for children whose families were too wealthy to get Medicaid but too poor to get private insurance.   It has strayed, of course.
With this new bill up to two-thirds of Americans could end up under government-run health care.  Headed for national health care?
2.1 million people currently covered by private health plans forced into this nationalized health care.
At least 70,000 American families will now be both eligible for taxpayer-funded entitlement health care and subject to the unfair Alternative Minimum Tax, the tax that was intended for millionaires.
$37.1 billion in cuts to Medicare providers... cuts for hospital care, skilled nursing care, home health care, oxygen therapy and imaging.
An estimated 3 million seniors will literally lose coverage altogether.
It removes safeguards to keep illegal immigrants from accessing SCHIP benefits.   A mandatory #400 million expenditure for translation services
The President has said he will veto this bill.  It should stand.
But we need to be constantly alert!!  They are going to try and try again to get health care socialized.  And if we object they will say we don't care about the children!!

Great news!!

GREAT News!!
Two reporters from the NY Times, both liberal Democrats, both negative about the war in Iraq, have come back from a visit there to report the surge is working, the servicepeople they talked to were upbeat, enthused by their new commander (Petraeas  Spelling??)  and saying they thought there was a good chance we can win.  Attacks are down, suicide bombings are down, citizen killings are down, more and more areas are getting under control .
Now all we have to do is trumpet it loud enough so the Democrats can't say they didn't hear it.
Unfortunately the Iraqi "government" is not doing as well.  They are going on a month's vacation and have not made enough progress in cooperation between the parties.

Polls

Well, Thompson is getting up there in the polls and may announce he is running by the end of the month.  In one poll he is 22 to Giuliani's 21  and Romney is 11.   In another poll he hasn't caught up to Giuliani yet but is close.
Wonder what will happen to the Democrat poll when Gore decides to  enter the race.  I don't see how he can resist.

recommended blog

I just saw someone named Fletch arguing with a liberal about Michael Moore's new movie, "Sicko".  I don't know who he is but he was sooooo good I went to his blog to see what he had to say there.
The latest post was a list of quotes but I didn't stop to read those.  I scrolled down to the next previous post and it was on global warming and the best I have seen yet.  He makes so much more sense than all these "authorities" who are  convinced "the sky is falling" and don't want anyone to argue or deny as if the science was infallible.  I have added his blog to my list of good ones but the address is
         fletchforfreedom.townhall.com
It looks like you can't click on that to get there but if you are interested go to the right side of the blog and scroll down to the list of blogs and clicking on it there should do it.   (If not, then type it in! :-))  )

I'm back

Well, I am back after a two -week trip and I missed most of the Immigration Bill excitement.  But at least it ended up OK for the minute.  Now if the idiots would just start at the beginning and close the damn border, --not that all of the terrorists who were coming through there haven't already made it.

What is wrong with these blooming idiots in Congress that they don't get it??  I can understand the Democrats--their whole scenario is making sure Bush gets pushed down as far as possible and that the next election goes their way.  But what is going on with the so-called Republicans??  They are the biggest bunch of quislings ever.
Oh for a new party that will stand up for decency, and a small government and sensible spending etc etc that the Republicans are SUPPOSED to be standing for.  I have no idea who these so-called Republicans are that have been elected--if they get any further to the left we will just have one party!!  And it won't be the one that is good for the country!!
Now all we need is Hillary and we can all kiss a decent republic goodbye.

Israel is expecting war this summer;  says Syria is building up for war.

http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt

I don't know if that link will show as a link.  if not go to the links in the right hand column.  It should be there.
The pictures hadn't come in for me when I left but the description was enough for the minute and he tells what is going on in the world in accurate language
after the pictures.
People in this country don't realize what we are facing.  This is an enemy unlike any we have ever faced.  They don't think or reason the same way we do.   I wonder when the country will wake up.
